Welcome to Hiouchi House, your custom-built luxury retreat on the Wild & Scenic Smith River! (This home can host up to 8 adults, and is not safe or suitable for children under the age of 15).
The Port Orford Cedar covered bridge welcomes you to your beautiful and relaxing 5,200 square foot hideaway. Across the river from Jed Smith State Park, this elegant home offers a fully-stocked cook’s kitchen with double ovens. We love to cook and have outfitted the kitchen with what we use, and everything we can imagine serious cooks might need. Start your day with coffee from the Wolf Gourmet coffee maker, or grab a quick Keurig coffee on your way out for adventure. The large great room — with a smart tv and premium sound system, along with separate sitting areas — offers ample space for those who want to watch tv and those who want more quiet. Grab a book to read in the living room or the separate solarium. Enjoy your dinner at the cozy dining table or the counter, or take your meal out on the riverview deck. The home has four bedrooms, each with its own bath, plus two half baths. The huge master suite includes a king size Westin Heavenly bed with riverview deck, plus a separate study with river views, and high speed internet, if you must work. Master bath includes soaking tub, two separate sinks, two separate toilets, seated makeup area, and large shower for two. Three more bedrooms — one with a king bed and two with queen beds — each have their own private baths. The walkout lower level features the home’s second smart tv, as well as another riverview deck, half bath, elliptical trainer, and new queen sleeper with premium mattress.
Relax in your riverview saltwater hot tub after a day of adventure. Take your private, meandering trail down to the riverfront deck for drinks or a meal, or to swim or fish. This salmon and steelhead stronghold river is the last free-flowing river in California. “Hiouchi” means “Blue Waters” in the local Tolowa tribe’s language. When you see the jewel-tone river, you will know why the locals gave the Hiouchi area its name.
Take a short drive to hike in Stout Grove, the Grove of Titans, or the Boy Scout Tree Trail. Or drive just 15 minutes to the beach and downtown Crescent City. We love Hiouchi House and can’t wait to share our home with you!

Riverfront home has a new saltwater hot tub, and three levels of riverview decks. There is a private trail to a large, fourth deck, right on the riverfront with easy access for swimming or fishing. The trail is for the physically fit (it’s a climb on the way back up to the house).

Cancelation Policy
- 100% refund of amount paid if you cancel at least 14 days before check-in.
- 50% refund of amount paid (minus the service fee) if you cancel at least 7 days before check-in.
- No refund if you cancel less than 7 days before check-in.

Due to allergies, no scented detergents, and no pets, service animals, or support animals are permitted on the premises.
Please remove shoes inside, we provide slippers for your convenience. No oils, soaps, or lotions in the saltwater hot tub.
